Here is an example of how you can use photoshop to produce and image closer to what the eye sees. Outside of Fort Jefferson at Dry Tortugas National Park, it was a very bright day outside. a picture of the cannon resulted in nothing but over-exposed white through the gunport, a properly exposed image of the outside produces nothing by blackness over the cannon and inside of the fort. By combining the two images, you see what my eye saw. This is because the human eye can see a range of about 9 f-stops of light, whereas a camera can only see 3.
